Vintage Collectibles - Magazines - Competition Surf

Illustrator Ken Dallison renders Corky Carroll in pen and ink in this historical mag from the summer of 1966. Competition Surf, a contest-oriented magazine, may have been doomed simply by bad timing, according to Tim De La Vega, author of the Surfing Collectibles Guide. "With the advent of the shortboard revolution, contests were soon to be a thing of shame, not honor." Content includes a Peru travel feature, Jeff Hakman's wins at Sunset Beach in the Duke Classic, "Paddling and Takeoff," "AhChoy Pops Haleiwa," a Corky Carroll profile, and Puerto Rico. This magazine is in very good condition, at least 80 percent of mint. One small stain at top edge of cover as shown in scan. Some minor staple rust. Otherwise very light cover and spine wear with no pulling at staples. Complete and intact with no torn or missing pages and no cutouts. Packaged in an archival-quality clear plastic sleeve with an acid-free mat backing board. Click Here for a closer look.
