SURFING ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 3, NO. 2 (1965)

Butch Van Artsdalen stares down a thick Pipeline wave in this early issue of Surfing Illustrated. It's really hard to believe these legends even attempted to ride Pipe on such primitive equipment, let alone master it.

Along with the lengthy Pipeline pictorial, this issue features Balona Creek action, "Miss SI," Makaha contest coverage, Steamer Lane contest coverage, and Florida hurricane surf.

This issue is in Betty-minus condition, or about 75 percent of mint. Some significant spine wear at top edge. Otherwise light to moderate cover and spine wear. Full-color centerspread of Peter Cole and Ricky Grigg at Waimea has pulled from staples. Complete with no torn or missing pages and no cutouts.

Packaged in an archival-quality clear plastic sleeve with an acid-free mat backing board.
