SURFER MAGAZINE VOLUME 22, NO. 1 (JANUARY 1981)

Aussies still dominate the pro tour in 1980, with Mark Richards leading the charge. "Is California Surfing Terminally Ill or Just...?" Author John Witzig asks why no Californian had emerged in 1980 to make a run for the world title or make a strong showing in Hawaii. Answer: They're too busy having a good time to worry about contests.

Also includes "Hawaii: Preview to Paradise," a beautiful pictorial featuring the likes of Jackie Dunn, Marvin Foster, Larry Bertlemann, and Michael Ho at Pipe, Velzyland, and other hunting grounds. Plus "People Who Surf" profiles the underground talent while M.R. dominates the world tour in Durban, South Africa.
