SURFER MAGAZINE VOLUME 24, NO. 4 (1983)

Reno Abellira pens a piece on "Overcoming the Fear Factor"(and he should know...) In other news, Gerry Lopez pierces his abdomen in a freak accident at Pipeline. After undergoing surgery, he was released from the hospital in a week and enjoyed a swift recovery. North Shore takes center stage in "Gone Troppo in Hula Heaven" and "Savage Splendor: North Shore '82/'83," where the old guard and new school clash. While veterans Brian Bulkley, Mark Richards, Shaun Tomson, and Bobby Owens still get their share, Michael Ho woos the crowd by winning the Pipe Masters with a broken arm. Youngsters Willy Morris, Cheyne Horan, and Joey Buran get honorable mention in the smaller stuff. Beautiful images from the ultimate arena. Plus a Marvin Foster profile and "Quivers," a look at the surfboards top performers were riding at the time. This magazine is in very good or Betty condition, about 80 percent of mint.
