INTERNATIONAL SURFING VOLUME 2, NO. 1 (1965)

Hard to believe this group of clean-cut guys are surfers, with their suits, ties, and penny loafers. But this was 1965 and pictured are: (back row, left to right) Donald Takayama, Harold Iggy, Phil Edwards, Mike Doyle, Mike Hynson; (front row) Bing Copeland, Dewey Weber, Hobie Alter, Don Hansen, and Larry Gordon. Content includes "Surfboard Evolution," the U.S. Championships at Huntington Beach, a Ricky Grigg feature, a San Francisco pictorial, a Fred Van Dyke feature, "The Album of Bruce Brown," Australia's Cronulla Board Riders Club, and "International Foxes" (no, not the canine variety...) Also includes the epic "dogfight" between Mickey Dora and Johnny Fain at the 1965 Malibu Invitational Club Contest. We rate this one near-mint, or 90 percent of mint. A definite Betty-plus. Cover is perfect with very few dinks. No pulling at staples. Barely detectable staple rust. Subscription card is intact. No torn or missing pages and no cutouts. We have two other copies of this issue in slightly lesser condition, about 80 percent of mint. Packaged in an archival-quality clear plastic sleeve with an acid-free mat backing board.
