SURFER MAGAZINE VOLUME 27, NO. 1 (1986)

Back in 1986, Mike Parsons -- shown here at fun-sized Rocky Point -- was just getting his feet wet on the North Shore, a long way from the giant Jaws, Cortes Bank, Todos Santos, and Maverick's he has since tackled. Mark Foo pens a eerily prophetic piece on "Late Take Offs." This one also includes coverage of David Eggers' win at the United States Surfing Championships, and Mark Occhilupo edges out Tom Curren in the OP Pro at Huntington Beach. Not surprisingly, Curren is named 1985 SURFER Poll champion, with Tom Carroll a close second. Frieda Zamba is named top female surfer of 1985. A Jeff Divine portfolio ensues, with action provided by Ronnie Burns, Dennis Pang, Hans Hedemann, and Joe Roper. Finally, a Texas pictorial delivers some decent surf, while Hawaiian legends Titus and Alekai Kinimaka reflect on "paradise lost." This issue is in very good or Betty condition, about 80 percent of mint. Light scuffing to front cover as shown in scan. Otherwise light cover and spine wear. No pulling at staples. No torn or missing pages and no cutouts. Packaged in an archival-quality clear plastic sleeve with an acid-free mat backing board. Click Here for a closer look.
