SURFING MAGAZINE VOLUME 1, NO. 1 (DECEMBER 1963)

This is the premiere issue of Petersen's Surfing Magazine, Volume 1, No. 1. A four-color wraparound cover shot by Don James shows a trio of regularfoots, including a very young Dick Brewer, riding a big peak at Sunset Beach. Content includes a Catalina Island travel feature, "Wipeout!" pictorial, "How to Hang Five," Full-color centerspread by Don James features the Calhoun sisters at Makaha: Candy, Marge, and Robin. Also includes early contest coverage and a John Peck interview. This copy is in great condition at 42 years old! We rate it a Betty-minus, or about 75 percent of mint. Spine is split to top staple at top edge, and about 1/4 inch at bottom edge. Some chipping and spotting at perimeter of cover. Interior pages have yellowed. No torn or missing pages and no cutouts.
