Vintage Collectibles - Magazines - Surfer Magazine - 1970's

The turns seem to get a little more square as we near the eighties, a result of design improvements and raw talent. Buzzy Kerbox goes off the lip at Duranbah, Australia. In this one, Hawaiian James Jones offers a tutorial on switching stance...he makes it sound so easy! Australian Contest Season coverage ensues, featuring Bugs and M.R. of course, plus new faces like Cheyne Horan and a 16-year-old goofyfoot named Tommy Carroll. Next it's "In Pursuit of a Celluloid Fantasy: The Truth About Making Surf Films," "Sea Shapes," a SURFER pictorial of empty waves, and "Summervision '79" by Mike Perry, a look at surfboard design innovations that led to enhanced performance. Finally, we finish with a Russell Short profile and "West Side Story," where a little humility will go a long way... This magazine is in Betty-minus condition, about 75 percent of mint. Light cover and spine wear with no pulling at staples. One ding at top of front cover above the "E" in SURFER. Centerfold has pulled from staples. No torn or missing pages and no cutouts. Packaged in an archival-quality clear plastic sleeve with an acid-free mat backing board. Click Here for a closer look.
